Barcelona is thinking of revising the terms of two 'non-transferable' stars' contracts.
FC Barcelona are currently unable to sign new players or register the new contracts of existing stars due to the Financial Fair Play concern hanging over their heads. They need to cut their pay mass by €200 million in order to accomplish that.
Offerings will be made for numerous first-team players, including Franck Kessie, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia, and Raphinha. Player sales are thought to be one of the most effective methods for reaching this goal.
But at the same time, Mundo Deportivo is claiming that Barcelona may try to renegotiate the contracts of two 'non-transferable' first-team stars, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong.
This time around, Ter Stegen and De Jong are both having successful campaigns. The former has consistently broken records, but the latter has had a significant impact on the squad from the middle of the field.
Barça was considering selling De Jong only last summer, and an agreement had already been made with Manchester United. However, the operation was abandoned because the player refused to leave.
Now, though, the Blaugrana have no desire whatsoever to offload the Netherlands international even though they need to make at least one big sale in their bid to resolve the FFP problems.
De Jong and Ter Stegen, though, won't be up for sale. The La Liga leaders appear to be considering renegotiating their contracts to cut their salaries, despite the fact that they are among the best earners at the club.
As Barcelona looks to keep their wage bill within the limits imposed by the league, it remains to be seen how negotiations regarding the reduction of salaries with the important duo go.
