Pep Guardiola issues Man City injury update on Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given an injury update on Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake ahead of their clash with West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday. While Ake could return to the City squad, the club is still sweating over the fitness of De Bruyne.
Ake has not played since sustaining a hamstring injury in the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich. However, he trained with the rest of the squad on Monday and is set for another session on Tuesday afternoon. This puts him in the frame for being back in action against the Hammers.
On the other hand, De Bruyne missed City's win against Fulham on Sunday and has not yet returned to training. He felt some discomfort during the midweek success against Arsenal and will need to come through Tuesday's training session to stand a chance of being involved against West Ham.
Guardiola provided an update on the situation, saying, "Nathan trained with us yesterday and feels good. Kevin started to move but hasn't trained with the team." The manager added that they would wait and see if De Bruyne could be involved on Wednesday after the training session.
City fans will be relieved to hear that Ilkay Gundogan may be having doubts about leaving the club this summer. The German star is out of contract at the end of the season, and there have been reports for several months that he would leave the club to join Barcelona.
However, according to Barcelona outlet SPORT, Gundogan now has doubts about the salary promises made by the Spanish club due to their financial issues. As a result, Man City has offered him a new €9m-a-year deal to stay at the Etihad next season, a number Barca have promised to top.
Gundogan has been a key player for City this season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions. His potential departure would be a huge blow for the club, especially after losing Sergio Aguero to Barcelona on a free transfer.
The Premier League champions are looking to maintain their control of the title race and secure a third title in four seasons. They are currently 10 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand over second-placed Manchester United. With just four games remaining, City will be hoping to have De Bruyne back in the squad as they seek to wrap up the title.
