Official: Mateu Alemany will leave Barcelona on June 30
In an unexpected turn of events, FC Barcelona has officially announced that club director Mateu Alemany would be leaving his position on June 30.
After Joan Laporta won the 2021 presidential elections, Alemany was appointed. The 60-year-old has been a marvel in the transfer market during his stay at the club, particularly last summer when he assisted the team in concluding agreements that appeared to be insurmountable.
Alemany’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2024. However, he has decided to leave the club on June 30 to pursue a new challenge in his career, and president Laporta has accepted his resignation.
Even though Alemany will no longer be a club employee from July 1, he has agreed to help Barcelona see out the summer transfer window, which was a key condition in Laporta accepting his resignation.
Even though he is under contract to the team until 2024, Mateu Alemany has told Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, of his desire to pursue other opportunities while also promising to finish the summer transfer window with the team.Therefore, Mateu Alemany has pledged to finish the first team's transfer business this summer, even if it must be at the very last minute of the transfer window, despite officially leaving the Club on July 1 thanks to an informal agreement.
Barcelona have also confirmed in their statement that they will shortly make announcements regarding the structural changes that will happen in the club following Alemany’s decision to part ways.
The 60-year-old may be on his way to Aston Villa of the Premier League, according to media reports.
According to Toni Juanmarti, Antonio Cordon, a former player for Real Betis, may be the most qualified candidate to succeed Alemany as Barcelona's director.
According to prior reports, Jordi Cruyff's contract with Barcelona is about to expire. As a result, there is currently some uncertainty over his continuance.
