Report: PSG Suspends Lionel Messi for Unauthorized Trip to Saudi Arabia
The unclear nature of Lionel Messi's future at Paris Saint-Germain has worsened the ups and downs of his stint in the French city.
According to ESPN's Julien Laurens, the Argentine superstar will be punished for two weeks since he traveled to Saudi Arabia and skipped Monday's practice after PSG's 3-1 loss to mid-table Lorient on Sunday.
The travel arrangements apparently got the approval of manager Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos, but only if the team had triumphed over the weekend. Yet, Messi traveled to Saudi Arabia without authorization. The 35-year-old represents Saudi Arabia as a tourism ambassador.
According to ESPN, Messi will miss games against Troyes and Ajaccio over the duration of his suspension since he won't train with the club.
Messi's stay in Paris has been largely unsuccessful, as evidenced by the penalties. After a lackluster debut in Ligue 1 the previous year, he got off to a terrific start this year and carried that form to a World Cup victory in Qatar. But since that break in November, PSG has had disappointing results, losing three of its last six games and being eliminated from the Champions League.
The club's two-year deal with Messi expires in May. His contract renewal negotiations with PSG appear to have stalled, and one of his suspected next movements is a probable return to Barcelona. The World Cup winner's ban will probably only help to worsen the situation between Messi and PSG in the last months of his contract.
barcelona have been very attentive to the situation of the former Barcelona legend ever since he left the camp nou as various news sources report there has been contact between the two sides Messi’s camp and Barcelonas camp, with this happening I just goes on to worsen the relationship between psg and Messi which is good news to the Barcelona camp
