On April 23, Albion endured heartbreak at the hands Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final.

In order to get revenge on Manchester United, Kaoru Mitoma wants to help Brighton achieve history to cap off a stellar debut season.

With their 6-0 thrashing of Wolves on Saturday, the high-flying Seagulls broke their Premier League points record and now have 52, reigniting the team's push for Europe.

Only 11 days have passed since fourth-placed United's agonizing penalty shootout loss to Albion in the FA Cup semifinal. United is now headed to the south coast.

Mitoma, a Japanese winger who only made his debut for Brighton in August, has quickly established himself this season by contributing to seven goals and four assists throughout a streak of outstanding performances.

The 25-year-old, who spent the previous season on loan at Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise, is determined to continue supporting the Seagulls' attempt to win their first-ever continental qualification.

Right now, finishing the season as high up the table and aiming for a Champions League or Europa League spot are both crucial for the team, he said.

"I believe we will be able to give the fans even more joy if we can play this kind of football at a greater level.

We want to make history in order to fulfill my desire to make them happy.

Despite winning the recent match at Wembley against Erik ten Hag's team, Brighton was unable to break through before Solly March's missed opportunity led to a heartbreaking 7-6 shootout defeat.

Despite having a game in hand, the eighth-placed Seagulls' chances of catching United and barely making it into the Champions League positions are exceedingly thin as they trail by 11 points.

But with seven games left for Albion in a busy final month of the season, a top-five finish is still very much a possibility.

After United defeated Brighton 2-1 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season, Mitoma, who started the thrashing of Wolves on the bench after being rested by manager Roberto De Zerbi, is optimistic that Brighton can complete a league double over United.
