Third candidate to replace Mateu Alemany at Barcelona emerges from Bundesliga
This summer, Barcelona is trying to replace departing Director of Football Mateu Alemany, and the most recent candidate to be mentioned in connection with the position is Fernando Carro of the Bundesliga.
Carro is one of the names in the running to move to Barcelona this summer, according to Sport. The current Bayer Leverkusen CEO, who assumed the position in 2018, has only ever worked in German football and enjoys the trust of those at die Werkself. Carro's deal with Leverkusen runs through 2027.
The Catalan newspaper notes that Hans Krankl, a former Barcelona and Austria forward who would later manage the team, had his mother teach him English when he was younger. Although Carro is from Barcelona, he attended a German school there and later studied and worked in the German media before accepting his position at Leverkusen.
Deco is the front-runner to enter Barcelona after Antonio Cordon seemed to lose favor as a potential choice. It's possible that Carro would work with Deco, with the Brazilian acting as the figurehead and Carro spending more time engaged in discussions, similar to how Jordi Cruyff and Alemany are doing it right now. Barcelona would want some help from Leverkusen for a move to be completed because the player has four years left on his contract.
