Prior to Erling Haaland's dominance in the Premier League this season, Andrew Cole and others shared the record for goals scored in a single season.

Erling Haaland just beat Alan Shearer's long-standing Premier League record, and Andrew Cole couldn't be happier.

In Wednesday's 3-0 victory over West Ham, Manchester City, Haaland scored his 35th league goal of the year.

Consequently, the 22-year-old broke the previous record for goals in a single Premier League season, which was set by Cole, then of Newcastle United, in the 1993–94 season and matched by Alan Shearer the following year – the pair both scored 34 goals.

Cole, who played for both Manchester clubs during his career but is most known for his time at United, is unconcerned by the loss of his position in history.

"Records are there to be broken, it's that simple," he said to Stats Perform. People haven't mentioned it to me in a way that makes me go home and start sobbing and saying, "Oh no! "If someone deserves to break that record, go ahead and do it; it doesn't concern me in the least.

I won't be rocking myself to sleep while I sit here. I don't mind because I'm not arrogant like that. His performance during his first season at City has been fantastic. It is absurd. He deserves praise, and I tip my head to him.

When asked if he anticipated Haaland would have such a terrifying debut in England, Cole responded, "I'm not surprised, to put it that way.Man City has been crying out for a player who just wants to get into the box and score goals if you look at what they've done over the years.

Maybe because of the number of goals he's scored, but it's not at all strange that he finds himself in your situation. Because you only need the number nine to complete them when you play for a team like Man City, which generates so many opportunities. We currently have just that.

It's not difficult if you're playing against a team that gives you lots of opportunities. The team at Newcastle when I did it was designed with my goal scoring ability in mind.
