Arsenal 'very close' to first summer transfer as Barcelona target changes his mind.
Martin Zubimendi, a standout for Real Sociedad, is on the verge of joining Arsenal, who are getting close to making their first summer acquisition.
Arsenal and Manchester City are squabbling over who will win the Premier League right now. Even though their attempts to end their domestic title drought could be in vain, they were still able to secure a spot in the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta is already working to bolster the team he has at his disposal in preparation for their return to Europe's top table. And even before the transfer window opens, the Gunners are nearing a deal on their first acquisition.
Zubimendi, a midfielder for Real Sociedad, is'very close' to joining Arsenal, claims Spanish publication AS. He is apparently considering accepting a contract to relocate to the United Arab Emirates.
Should he move to North London, Arteta would gain a crucial midfielder for the upcoming season. Declan Rice, a midfielder for West Ham, is rumored to be a target for the summer, although Zubimendi would be the first to arrive.
Any deal would see the one-time Spanish international perform a drastic U-turn over his future. He has rejected a move to the Emirates in the past, whilst he was also linked with a switch to Barcelona with talk that his €60million (£52.8m) release clause could be activated.
Martin Zubimendi is reportedly on the verge of a switch to Arsenal
He denied the idea that he might depart from Sociedad anytime soon, though. The 24-year-old claimed in a statement last month: "Rumors, rumors, since I informed my agent that I didn't want to hear anything, especially in the winter. With the current season, it would be absurd to ignore Real Sociedad. Here, I'm very content.
this would be thier first transfer of the summer.
