Pep Guardiola responds to Sam Allardyce's crazy assertion and praises Neil Warnock
After being appointed as Leeds manager, Sam Allardyce brazenly declared that he was on Pep Guardiola's level, a comment to which the Manchester City manager has firmly answered.
Pep Guardiola agrees with Sam Allardyce that no one is ahead of him "in football terms," naming Neil Warnock as another experienced manager who deserves greater respect.
Shortly after being confirmed as Leeds' new manager, Allardyce made headlines by declaring: "Far too many people think I am old and antiquated, which is so far from the truth," the short-lived former England manager began during a press conference on Wednesday.
"I may be 68 and appear old, but in football terms, nobody is ahead of me, not Pep, not [Jurgen] Klopp, not [Mikel] Arteta, so it's all there with me." I do what they do and they do what I do, but in terms of knowledge and depth of information, I'm on par with them - not better than them, but certainly on par."
Just a few hours later, Guardiola was holding his own press conference following Manchester City's crucial 3-0 home win over West Ham, which saw them reclaim top spot in the table. When asked about Allardyce's comments, City manager Pep Guardiola stated that he agreed with his colleague and praised Warnock as well.
"He's right, to be honest," Guardiola responded. "Take a look at what happened to Neil Warnock at Huddersfield." These are fantastic leaders. It appears that the young managers, with their techniques or whatever...
"However, [the older managers] are really good; they help us be ourselves, like Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace." They have a wealth of knowledge and a thorough understanding of the game."
Warnock has done a fantastic job since coming out of retirement to guide Huddersfield to Championship safety. The 74-year-old has led the Terriers to four wins in their past seven games, ensuring that one point from their remaining two games will be enough to ensure their survival.
