Liverpool are considering transfer offers to sign two Manchester United targets this summer, it has been reported.

Fabrizio Romano has announced that the Red Devils are close to signing Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister, after he "presented their project" to the player in a meeting.

The 24-year-old, who won the World Cup with Argentina last year, is also said to have received a financial offer from Liverpool, with the possibility of leaving the Amex stadium growing.

He has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season and as a player comfortable playing either side of midfield or in a higher role, he will add a new element to the team. Red Devils image is refreshed next season.

Last month, Romano claimed United were also racing to sign Mac Allister - meaning Liverpool could well overtake Erik ten Hag's side in their pursuit of the Argentinian star. And he's not the only United target the Reds could rob a march to sign.

According to Spanish news agency Fichajes, Klopp is interested in signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona as he keeps an eye on the current financial situation at Camp Nou.

Xavi's side may be forced to sell key players this summer to bring in Lionel Messi, who will leave PSG at the end of the season on a free transfer.

United pursued the Dutchman for most of last summer's transfer window but were unable to convince him to move to Old Trafford.

They have finally completed a transfer for a midfielder, with Casemiro joining three-time Champions League and European Cup winners Real Madrid. Advertisement

Meanwhile, De Jong revealed in October that he never intended to join United, preferring instead to stay at Barca.

He told Dutch outlet NOS:

"I've decided to stay in May. So I'm very calm myself. Now I feel welcome at the club. Nothing has changed with my teammates."

Whether Liverpool or United can convince the 24-year-old to join their club this time around remains to be seen - but Ten Hag's side will be desperate not to lose their transfer target to the their fierce opponent.
