ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER'S GAME-WINNING MAN UTD PERFORMANCE LIVES UP TO THE LIVERPOOL HYPE

Nowadays, Brighton is particularly skilled at entertaining.

The squad of the 2020s is very different from the League One occupants that supporters of a particular recent vintage can recall.

Where Dean Hammond once stood, Moises Caicedo now occupies that space. There is now a Kaoru Mitoma where there was once a Dean Cox. Lewis Dunk has replaced Tommy Elphick where he once stood.

The club's development is much more complex than that, but it can also be summarily inferred from the fact that they recently faced Manchester United twice in little more than a week, exacting revenge for their loss in the FA Cup semifinal on Thursday night. It contrasts sharply with the losing streaks in 2008 against Carlisle, Huddersfield, Stockport, MK Dons, and Tranmere Rovers.

Alexis Mac Allister probably won't be the last Seagulls talent to experience success on the biggest stage, but it must have seemed absurd to think that the club would one day produce a World Cup champion. Brighton has continued to mop up and push South American talent into the first team.

The Argentine hero at Brighton started during the coronavirus epidemic when he started to gain more attention under the then-manager Graham Potter, continuing down the tried-and-true path for young players.

Since then, he has matured and grown into one of the Premier League's most resilient and adaptable midfielders, displaying bite while playing in front of his defense and a deadly instinct for goals from a distance or at set pieces.

Before the summer transfer window opens, a number of Brighton players are generating interest, including Mac Allister. According to 90min, the 24-year-old is eager to stay in the Premier League and believes Liverpool would be the greatest fit for him.

Mac Allister was frequently in possession during the opening phases of Thursday night's midfield encounter between Brighton and Manchester United, twisting and turning to get past Bruno Fernandes and Fred who were pushing hard. With the ball, Brighton strung together some rapid triangles with Mac Allister in the spotlight each time.

It was the sort of performance that made a club like Liverpool's interest entirely and completely understandable.
