Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the current holder of the Silver Stool of Asante and the Paramount Chief of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, has remarked that litigation and chieftaincy issues have stoked intolerance and discontent in numerous communities across the nation.
According to him, this has slowed the growth and development of several settlements and their residents.
The statement was made by Daasebre Osei Bonsu at a vibrant Akwasidae durbar held last Sunday at Essumeja in the Amansie-East Municipality of the Ashanti Region to mark the first anniversary of Nana Okyere Kusi Ntrama's installation as the Paramount Chief of the Essumeja Traditional Area and Head of the Benkum Division of Asanteman.
Succession
Okyere, Nana Newmont Ghana Gold Limited's general manager, is mining engineer Kusi Ntrama, who took over from Nana Oduro Numapau, who passed away about 20 years ago, at the Ahafo Mine.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was then enstooled and received the Oath of Allegiance from Nana Kusi Ntrama.
The Mamponghene counseled the chiefs and residents of the traditional territory that, with the appointment of a new chief, it was imperative that they set aside their disagreements and unite behind him to devise and organize realistic and significant initiatives to further the area's development.
Development
Nana Kusi Ntrama gave the populace the assurance that he would work to advance community development in his traditional territory using both his knowledge and extensive experience.
Aside from promising to protect and preserve the Asantemanso Forest at the Essumeja Forest Reserve, he also mentioned that numerous tree species had already been planted there to replace those that had been felled by environmental saboteurs.
In order to aid the young in the traditional area, he also gave the populace the assurance that he would generate work.
He expressed gratitude to Daasebre Osei Bonsu, Nana Atwerewa Ampem, the Tepa Omanhene, Barima Ogyeabour Amankwaah Adunan II, the Omanhene of the Kuntanase Traditional Area, and other chiefs for coming to the event in person.
S.K. Boafo, the previous chairman of the Minerals Commission, and Kwame Boafo, a lawyer with a practice in Kumasi, were also in attendance.
