The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have been advised to show more caution while responding to provocations from citizens.
Because the military had access to sophisticated weapons that civilians did not, Samuel Asare Akuamoah, a Deputy Commissioner of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), who gave the advice, explained that giving in to those provocations could worsen the conflicts.
To whom much is given, much is demanded, is all we are saying.
He emphasized that you should show great discipline and not let anything divert you from carrying out your constitutional obligations, which include defending Ghana's territorial integrity.
When the NCCE and GAF engaged in an open dialogue yesterday, Mr. Akuamoah provided the advice.
at its yearly Constitution Week event, a forum.
Event
One of the key initiatives launched in 2001 to mark the nation's transition back to constitutional democracy is Constitution Week.
"Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy: Building National Cohesion through Civic Education and Participation in Local Governance" served as the topic for this year's events.
Many GAF members, including senior officers, attended the event and used the chance to voice their concerns and ask questions.
Brigadier General Michael Opoku, the GAF's Director General of Human Resources, served as its chairman.
Message for the public
Mr. Akuamoah, the Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Operations, also pleaded with the populace to refrain from actions that may endanger Bringing them into direct conflict with the military will just inflame them further.
He continued, "Citizens must also keep in mind that the military are also human beings and citizens of the country who are entitled to the fundamental human rights and freedoms that the Constitution has granted to all of us." They should not be pushed to the point where they exhibit any excesses in the performance of their duties.
He praised the GAF for their crucial contribution to the Fourth Republican Constitution's success over the course of three decades by submitting to civilian government and refraining from meddling in the country's governance.
