The World Intellectual Property Day celebration this year is a great opportunity for businesswomen and women who are considering starting a business in the products or services industries to learn more about the significance of business legal protection.

At the celebration's recent inauguration in Accra, the acting Registrar-General, Grace Ama Issahaque, stated that women's knowledge of the legal aspects of their enterprises will defend their rights and improve their competitiveness in the market.

Women are establishing new creative trends, starting businesses, and changing our world worldwide, but especially in Ghana.

In our many institutions, we have female scientists and researchers working to create better technologies that benefit us all.

"Women are starting successful enterprises, too."

However, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are unaware of the intellectual property (IP) assets that their companies own and believe that they have little to do with the commercialization of their enterprises. "We aim to change that," she added.

False impression

In addition, Mrs. Issahaque claimed that because business owners, particularly women, had the false impression that intellectual property was expensive, they had no IP strategy at all.

It is for this reason, among others, that her office will host a two-day exhibition of women-run micro, small, and medium enterprises as part of the celebration of this year's event in partnership with the Chamber of Agribusiness, Ghana.

Day of the World's Intellectual Property

Every year on April 26th, World Intellectual Property Day is observed. IP offices all around the globe host events to commemorate the day and educate the public about how intellectual property rights support innovation and creativity in the workplace.

By offering solutions that promote a sustainable future for businesses, it also acknowledges the tremendous contribution that women throughout the world are making in terms of invention and creativity.

Celebration

The subject for this year's conference is "Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity."

According to Mrs. Issahaque, "We are celebrating the can-do attitude of women entrepreneurs, inventors, and creators around the world and their ground-breaking works that are offering solutions to support the growth of businesses."
