Todd Boehly, owner of Chelsea, has been commended for his excellent intentions, and Frank Lampard has urged his team to take the first step toward the future in the remaining weeks of the current campaign.
Chelsea will drop below Gary O'Neil's team, who have fought against relegation for the whole of the season, and they might drop as low as 14th if they lose at Bournemouth on Saturday.
Boehly, who has spent about 600 million on new players in the past 12 months since purchasing the club, stated this week that he and the hierarchy "very much believe we're going to figure it out" following the team's sixth straight loss to Arsenal, which may have been their most clumsy performance to yet.
With five games remaining, Chelsea is still without a win and is headed for its worst Premier League finish in 29 years.
To avoid tying the club's all-time lowest league season goal total of 31, which has stood since 1924, Lampard's team needs one more goal. The group is still 15 goals short of the group's worst Premier League season total.
Despite the dire numbers, Lampard claimed that since he took over as temporary manager a month ago, he has noticed positive indicators from the owners.
Speaking so positively is a good thing, he remarked of Boehly's remarks. Since I've been here, I've observed that there are good intentions regarding the direction the club will follow. That's good, and from my perspective I'm working with the team to try and get a change in attitude, performance, and then outcomes. The club's owners are responsible for making those greater choices.
"It's not my place to discuss (a club vision). I'll be here until the season is through. My current vision doesn't seem to include my providing a response.
Lampard aims to lead the squad to its first victory in any tournament since March 11 while facing three of the top four teams left to play. Since that 3-1 triumph over Leicester, the club has gone through three managers and only scored four goals in nine games.
