As reality sets in, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has emphasized that his team must accept the truth that they will not place in the top eight this season.

Since his return to the club as the interim head coach, the Blues have dropped all six of Lampard's games; they take on Bournemouth on Saturday.

In an interview with the media prior to the game, Lampard acknowledged that given Chelsea's current struggles, it is time to confront reality.

"For 20 years, Chelsea has had good fortune. You are in the spotlight when it is focused on you. You must comprehend and deal with that. Even as a fans, you can be angry and desire more while yet being sympathetic to Chelsea's past 20 years,' he remarked.

I shouldn't sit on it and let myself get too hurt. More specifically, what are we doing to leave? We won't make the top eight or the Champions League this season based on our performance. Although not all of my admirers want to hear that, it's the reality I've returned to.

Lampard went on to talk about his current circumstances at the club, saying it had been difficult for him to step in as the fourth manager this year after Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Bruno Saltor left.

I believe that every scenario is unique, he continued. The third or fourth manager is me. That indicates that the season as a whole has been challenging. Every circumstance is unique. I've always been permanent, so it's a new circumstance for me.

'It might be more prevalent now because of the pressures of big business and Premier League modern football,'

I've had three permanent jobs, if you manage. Everyone is aware of how terrible the situation I've found myself in is, and I was aware of it before I entered it. There isn't much time to lay down. You must acknowledge that.

You go through periods of ease and periods of difficulty. No, not if you're talking about our last four Premier League contests. They are poor. That is a whole picture. Our standing in the league, as well as our points and goals, are season realities. Over the season, four managers.

"Reality exists. It's not my responsibility to overly concentrate on that or consider statistics from a distance.

If they lose against Bournemouth this weekend, Chelsea, who are currently in 11th place in the Premier League standings, may plummet as far as 13th.

At the close of the season, the head coach advised his team to play for pride rather than place.

Outsiders would have you believe there isn't much to it, but I, along with the players, must display a tremendous amount of pride,' he said.

Will the summer require a reboot? Sure.'

Although Lampard's long-term replacement has not yet been named, Mauricio Pochettino has received a lot of attention as a candidate to take over at Stamford Bridge.

After losing six straight games after replacing Potter and Saltor this season, Lampard will have four games to turn things around.
