Rory McKenzie, a player for Kilmarnock, acknowledges that the agonizing memories of his team's two-year relegation are what motivate him today.

McKenzie is one of the few surviving members of the group that lost to Dundee in the playoff round before easily winning the Championship.

There are five games remaining to preserve their top-flight status, beginning with Saturday's trip to Motherwell. Derek McInnes and his team are now in 11th place in the Premiership, which would send them to another play-off.

I would much rather be playing in the top six, but I am enjoying the game because of how important it is for the team, said McKenzie. You want to participate in important matches, and for a club like Kilmarnock, knowing how awful it is to be relegated makes it much more significant. In that regard, it is a fantastic opportunity and a wonderful game to start winning.

The 29-year-old is motivated by his past suffering.

Of course, I have been considering it for a few weeks," he replied. "I do not want to feel that feeling again. It is a horrible, horrible feeling."I told the boys about it, and we will try our best to avoid experiencing anything similar in the future.

McKenzie was up in Troon, and he has a long-standing relationship with Killie thanks to his formative time spent in the club's academy. Despite this, McKenzie does not believe his loyalty to the team should make him any more determined than his teammates to support the cause.

I do not believe it ought to," he declared. "It might seem that way since I was born and raised here and am more familiar with the club than most, but if you are a professional, that is not something you want to have on your resume."Yes, I am a local, but whether you are a part-time resident or on loan, it should mean the same for everyone else in the team. You do not wish to return to your parent club after a season in which you were demoted.

Everyone has a motive for doing anything, thus it ought to mean the same thing to everyone.

Killie hopes to build on their recent victory over St Mirren, which marked their first league away victory of the year.
