In a thrilling Championship championship game at Ochilview, Dundee defeated Queen's Park 5-3 to clinch their return to the Scottish Premiership.
The Dens Park team might have earned automatic promotion with just a point, but they closed the season on a high note thanks to goals from Lyall Cameron and Luke McCowan in the second half, which halted the brave Spiders' challenge after an incredible first half in which six goals were shared.
Both teams entered the highly anticipated match in unimpressive form, with Queen's having dropped out of the top flight for the first time since 1958 and Dundee having won only one in their previous five games.
An astonishing start that produced four goals in the first 17 minutes effectively dispelled any notion that a lack of confidence on both sides coupled with the pressure of the situation might result in a cagey game.
In the third minute, Dundee made their intentions known as Cameron narrowly missed the target after being set up by Alex Jakubiak on the edge of the box.
Just one minute later, the same players teamed up to give the visitors the lead when Cameron capitalized on Malachi Boateng's mistake inside the box and cut the ball back for Jakubiak to score from eight yards out.
The hosts tried to find a response and Dominic Thomas saw an inswinging free-kick from the right pushed behind by goalkeeper Adam Legzdins in the ninth minute.
The resulting corner led to an equaliser as centre-back Charlie Fox seized on a bouncing ball 25 yards out and unleashed a sensational dipping half volley that looped over Legzdins and into the net.
And Queen’s edged themselves ahead in the 12th minute when Connor Shields fired home a superb angled volley from the edge of the six-yard box after Grant Savoury’s shot had been blocked.
After Dan Sweeney headed McCowan's ball back across the goal in the opening minute, Dundee once again tied the score when defender Lee Ashcroft volleyed in from six yards.
Five minutes later, Barry Maguire nearly gave the visitors a second chance when his effort hit the crossbar.
