With only four chances left to achieve the goal, Marco Silva swore Fulham would do everything they could to match their best-ever Premier League point total.
The previous time Fulham reached 53 points was in the 2008–09 season under Roy Hodgson, when they finally finished eighth.
When they play relegation-threatened Leicester on Monday, Silva's 10th-placed Cottagers will have their next chance to get closer to accomplishing that feat. They are now eight points away from doing so.
We will fight for it, Silva declared. We are going to fight since it is obvious that we have it as a target. We are going to give it our all in the battle for the last 12 points."It is there, the target is there, but realistically we are going to have to fight really hard to get it," the team said. "As always, game by game, thinking the next one will be a very good one at home at the Cottage that we want to do our best and we are going to do our best to win."
After three straight defeats, including Wednesday night's match against Liverpool that was decided by Mohamed Salah's 39th-minute penalty, Silva's team is aiming to turn things around.
Liverpool obviously did not deserve the outcome, he remarked. The penalty, which I would say is embarrassing, was a glaring error that cost us the game, and it is now up to us to respond, try again, and do our best to earn the three points.
The second-most recent defeat suffered by Fulham came at the hands of a resurgent Manchester City, who provided a completely different challenge than that anticipated from the 16th-placed Foxes on Monday.
Andreas Pereira, a midfielder, and Tim Ream, a captain, will not be available for Silva because of season-ending injuries they acquired during the City match.
Silva anticipates Dean Smith's team's perilous situation to be a deadly motivator come the Bank Holiday. Dean Smith's team is outside the drop zone on goal difference alone.
The following game against Leicester will likely be even more challenging than those against City and Liverpool, he continued.
