To aid in the mobility of the union's members, a pharmaceutical business named Gokals-Laborex provided 200 white canes valued at GHC25,000 to the Ghana Blind Union.

The contribution, which took place last Friday at the Blind Union's headquarters, was in response to a request for assistance made by the Regional Blind Union so that the union could purchase necessary equipment to improve the mobility of its members.

According to Gokals-Laborex management, the contribution demonstrated the company's dedication to contributing to society as one of the organization's guiding principles.

CSR

Mahesh Gokaldas, managing director of Gokals-Laborex, stated during the short exercise that the contribution was given as part of the company's corporate social responsibility to the community and in response to a request made by the union.

According to him, the organization's support for the union was based on the idea that helping the weaker members of society contributes to the development of a more civilized society.

Supporting the union is a pleasure. White canes are an opportunity for the blind to navigate their environment much better, avoiding overdependence on family and loved ones, and would help disabled people to be more independent and reach their full potential, Mr. Gokaldas said.

He assured the union and others that the organization would continue to help them so that weaker groups could fulfill their share of the responsibility for national growth.

Gratitude and more assistance

George Abelse, the regional president of the Ghana Blind Union, accepted the white canes on the union's behalf and thanked Gokals-Laborex for responding to the request for assistance.

He continued by saying that the donation arrived on schedule.

According to Mr. Abelse, the contribution was made so individuals who couldn't buy them might own the necessary item to facilitate their transportation throughout the city.

"The white canes would help us to move independently and freely, as movement without the canes was always problematic for us," he stated.

He gave the union his word that the members who required white canes would receive them.
