Barcelona will try and sell FIVE first-team stars to generate funds for Lionel Messi

Barcelona will be looking to sell FIVE first-team players to facilitate a blockbuster transfer for Lionel Messi this summer.

Messi's two-year stint at Paris Saint-Germain looks set to come to an end this summer.

He left the Catalan giants to sign for PSG in 2021, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Barca are said to be keen to re-sign their former player, with club president Joan Laporta determined to lure the 35-year-old to Spain.

That's according to Mundo Deportivo, who claims Barca will look to offload Erik Garcia, Marcos Alonso, Franck Kessie, Raphinha and Ferran Torres.

The ability to sell all five players could be the key to facilitating the transfer of the Argentine forward.

Raphinha, who joined the Camp Nou side from Leeds United, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with Arsenal and Newcastle United possibly interested in securing his services.

Former Man City striker Torres has also been linked back to the Premier League as Aston Villa monitor his situation before the transfer market reopens. Garcia, Alonso and Kessie are also said to be being slashed.

Messi, of course, had an iconic time at Barca before moving to PSG. He has won an incredible 10 La Liga titles and 4 times the prestigious Champions League.

Barca want him back for the 2023/24 campaign when they are ready to eliminate five players to recruit the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Meanwhile, Messi is having trouble with PSG after an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia. He was later suspended by PSG for two weeks and the World Cup champion apologized for his actions.

"First of all, I would like to apologize to my teammates and the club. To be honest, I did think we would have a day off after the game like in previous weeks," he stated. .

"I organized this trip, which I canceled. I can't cancel it anymore. I repeat, I want to say sorry for what I did. I'm waiting to see what the club wants to do with me."
