Liverpool look certain to miss the Champions League next season, but Jurgen Klopp's men should still give their all to win the Europa League

Jurgen Klopp admits his side face huge challenge in breaking into top four
I know Liverpool fans are still hoping for the Champions League, but their result on Saturday doesn't matter, the top four are long out of reach.
I know you can watch Manchester United games and say, West Ham are tough away, Bournemouth and Fulham have been doing well lately and so on, but the reality is that Liverpool has so much work to do.
Jurgen Klopp seems to agree, speaking ahead of the match against Brentford, speaking of their chances:
"Nothing has changed. The other teams are in much better positions and as long as they win the games we won't stand a chance."
“We also have to keep the teams behind us. If Brighton win all of their games and the way they played last night, there could be another incredible performance after that (they can beat us).
“We have 59 points, United have 63, so we can get 71 points at most. United need eight points from five games to do that. I think they will! They won three games and that was it. The way the top four have played this year, it seems that no team has lost more games than they have won.
I'm not one of those people who say it's better for them if they don't qualify for the Europa League or the Conference League or whatever. I scored a goal in a European final - the UEFA Cup at the time - and lifted the trophy, and no one would be able to take it away from me. It was one of the best evenings in my old club's history, and also one of the greatest finals. You should not reduce that.
Liverpool shouldn't be playing against weak teams in the Europa League - winning the UEFA Cup in 2001 was amazing
Liverpool shouldn't be playing against weak teams in the Europa League - winning the UEFA Cup in 2001 was amazing
“Perhaps Liverpool fans have been a bit spoiled in recent years with Jurgen Klopp securing Champions League spots - and finals there - but it's still European football, for God's sake. You can only win four titles in a season and only the elite can do that, because the rest don't even make it to Europe. So I'm not one of those people who think we have to face weak teams in the Europa League. No chance. Did you go to great lengths to get into Europe and then you don't want to be there? absurdity.
All I can say is that that night in Dortmund when we won the UEFA Cup meant a lot to me, and to Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and others. It's a European tournament and the fans will be happy if they get there.
