Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defense at the end of the season and they have identified Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio as a target.

A report from Le Parisien claims that Liverpool will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the talented young defender, but they should sign the 21-year-old this summer.

Inácio is valued at €45m (£40m) and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool are willing to shell out that amount for his services.

The 21-year-old is an exceptionally talented defender with a bright future ahead of him. He has everything to be a top player and working with a manager like Jurgen Klopp can help him reach his full potential. The German coach has done a great job of nurturing talented young players during his time at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool. He is also likely to have a positive influence on the Portuguese defender's development.

Players like Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have been huge disappointments this season and Klopp needs to deliver an upgrade this summer. Inacio could prove to be a great long-term investment for the Reds.

The asking price of 45 million euros might sound like a bargain in the long run. The report adds that Liverpool have begun negotiations to sign the Portuguese defender and it remains to be seen whether they can finalize the deal.
