The 2023 Annual Synod of the Somanya Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana was held at Akosombo in the Asuogyaman District.
The 20th annual four-day synod took place at the Wesley Methodist Chapel in Akosombo and had as its topic "Discipleship: Living a Transformed Life in Jesus Christ."
Rt. Rev. Moses K. Jackson, the Somanya Diocesan Bishop, the Diocesan Lay Chairman, Abraham Asare Sackitey, the Diocesan Secretary, Jane D. Dor, the Assistant Secretary, Mark N.O. Bartlett, the Diocesan Treasurer, George Tetteh Kwadjoe, and a former Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Albert Ofoe Wright, were among those present.
The synod considered numerous reports from the several circuits as it evaluated the work of God in the diocese.
There are now nine circuits in the Somanya Diocese, which was established in 2003 after the Tema Diocese was split off. The first bishop was the Rt. Rev. Abeiku Blankson. They are the Obawale/Nsutapong/Aboabo circuits, Somanya, Akosombo, Dodowa, Akuse, Agormanya, Kpong, Asesewa, and Agormanya circuits.
social assistance
In his presentation, the Somanya Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Jackson, praised the coordinating social service offices in the diocese for creating a health and sanitation office to help Methodists and other members of society fulfill the health and sanitation requirements in their diverse communities.
The mission of the coordinating office for social service is to encourage the formation of circuit health teams throughout all of the circuits and support those teams as they work to support the church's commitment to the promotion of health.
The Diocesan Bishop expressed his gratitude to Compassion International's management for their assistance in assisting families to lessen poverty in the diocese. He said that Compassion International's efforts had a significant positive impact on children from disadvantaged households.
In addition, Bishop Jackson commended Most Rev. Dr. Paul K. Boafo, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, for his pastoral visit to the Somanya Diocese last year. During that visit, he performed foundation stone laying ceremonies in Asitey in the Somanya Circuit, Obawale/Nsutapong/Aboabo, and Anum in the Akosombo Circuit.
circuit upgrades
According to Rt. Rev. Jackson, the Dodowa and Akosombo Circuits had been divided into two portions. It was stage "A" for the Doryumu and Atimpoku portions, respectively.
He emphasized that preparations were well along to further carve out the Adonteiman-Danfa Section to be a circuit next year, saying that this had enlarged the circuits from nine to eleven.
The Diocesan Synods of the Methodist Church, according to the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Boafo, were highly significant gatherings for the fellowships they gave to strengthen one another in our Methodist spiritual journeys, among other things.
He stated that the church's "Wesley Towers" project was almost finished and that "the work done by the contractors had given a new look to the area."
