Before their licenses can be renewed, lawyers across the nation will soon be required to attend a minimum 12-hour professional development program.

This will increase their knowledge and aid in their professional development.

In line with that, plans are well underway to make the program, which is outlined in the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 2020 (Legislative Instrument 2423), a requirement for the issuance of a practicing license to all lawyers under the Legal Profession Bill, which will soon become law. The Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah, made this announcement at the enrolment of 196 lawyers to the bar in Accra yesterday.

Ceremony

The new attorneys were led by Justice Yeboah as they took the oath of office and made a declaration of commitment to practice law in line with the established standards of conduct.

Friends, relatives, and well-wishers of the inductees attended the occasion at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The certificates were distributed to the new solicitors by the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, and Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

Hard effort, honesty, professionalism, and decorum, according to Justice Anin Yeboah, who also said that entrants must exhibit these characteristics in both their corporate and private practices.

The actual job is about to begin; therefore, the devotion you showed during your studies must not stop now, he remarked.

In order to preserve the integrity and dignity of the profession, he also exhorted the attorneys to adopt good habits and follow the rules set out by the legal system.

The Chief Justice said that the attorneys had already taken on a greater amount of responsibility in society by taking the oath.

"Be careful not to let your ethics go just because you have become attorneys today." "Be a good lawyer who can be trusted; strive to be that," he said.

The Chief Justice additionally urged the attorneys to provide pro bono assistance to the poor in light of Proverbs 31:8.
