Who would have imagined that a street child living with his well-known alcoholic father at a tailoring shop in Suhum Amponsah Market, whose mother was a chief fetish priest's daughter, could be rescued, receive an education, and go on to become a minister of the gospel? Is it not pure grace?
Who is this individual? How did he emerge from obscurity to become well-known? Indeed, everything is possible with God.
The man in question is the steadfast Apostle Ing. Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, who is leaving his position as The Church of Pentecost's general secretary after 10 years of service to the organization, God, and the nation.
Apostle Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi is not embarrassed by the dark and dismal history he came from, which only God's great hand could grab him out of and bring about a predictable conclusion. It is understandable why this man is so dedicated to evangelism and soul-winning.
Every time he takes the stage to deliver a sermon, he tells the story of how God brought him to where he is now. Most of his listeners cry while listening to his story because it is so moving, and they want to hear more.
His mother, an idol worshipper, and his alcoholic father both learned about Christ and received salvation through him. He may now take satisfaction in creating a powerful and well-respected Christian household.
Elections at the 46th General Council Meeting
At the next 46th session of the General Council Meetings, the Church of Pentecost will pick a new General Secretary to succeed Apostle Kumi-Larbi.
From May 3 to May 5, 2023, this gathering will be held in the Pentecost Convention Center (PCC), Gomoa Fetteh, in the Central Region. The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will attend the event as a special guest of honor.
This essay makes no attempt to predict who will take over as general secretary of Ghana's largest Pentecostal or charismatic church.
Instead, it aims to celebrate the accomplishments and lessons learned by the devoted outgoing General Secretary. The role of General Secretary, which is regarded as the second-highest position within the Church of Pentecost, will also be highlighted.
How it all started
Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, the then-Chairman of the Church, became aware of a young Apostle named Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi, who was in charge of the Asamankese Area of the Church at the time, in 2013, when the "gentle giant," Apostle Dr. Alfred Koduah, ended his second five-year term as the General Secretary of the Church.
People in the Church agree that, looking back over the previous 10 years, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah could not have made a better choice since Apostle Kumi-Larbi has exceeded all expectations.
In addition to working alongside Apostle Eric Nyamekye, who was recently elected President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Kumi-Larbi served under Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah for five years.
Apostle Kumi-Larbi has carried out the execution of the Church's Vision 2023 of the 'Possessing the Nations' agenda with tenacity, excitement, and fervor.
Considering that the General Secretary is always moving to achieve the goal, Chairman Eric Nyamekye occasionally questions whether he ever sleeps.
When introducing Apostle Kumi-Larbi at one of the events the church hosted in November of last year, Apostle Nyamekye nearly broke down in tears when he said that Kumi-Larbi would be attending the annual conference for the final time in his life.
