Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of FixTheCountry, has called the Ghana Armed Forces' order to Attorney Jamaldeen Tonzua Seidu to stop using the title "EX-Captain" "completely ridiculous and targeted."

The Ghana Armed Forces had warned the lawyer against using the title of "ex-captain" because he had not served the required number of years as required to use the rank in civil life. The lawyer had served in the military for five years, 10 months, and 18 days prior to his voluntary resignation of commission.

"GAF wishes to state that the actions of the lawyer are in contravention of the Armed Forces Regulations, and he is therefore cautioned to cease using the rank in his civil life," GAF stated.

The cease-and-desist letter to the attorney, according to Barker-Vormawor, is only intended to discredit Mr. Seidu, who has lately criticized the military's "disorganized approach" to Operation Vanguard.

In addition, Jamal served as Operation Vangaurd's lead legal counsel, so he has direct knowledge of the military's involvement in the disorganized Galamsey combat, the official noted.

He said, "Does that indicate he is utilizing his military status in civilian life if he is introduced as a former military officer? He was a captain once, wasn't he? Or does his voluntary resignation imply that he was never a military officer? Being referred to as a "former" or "ex-captain" is not a military term.

If we are to have a respectable democracy, Barker-Vormawor stated that our military's "constant reluctance to accept accountability for its inactions and deeds must end."  Jamal was a renowned officer who gave excellent service to his nation.

"He gave the Army so much goodwill and sparkle." After serving his sentence, he chose to depart and pursue other interests. He merits our regard. even when he speaks out against the military in the hopes that it will give Ghanaians better service.

He has pleaded with the people and media outlets to "see through this deliberate attempt at silencing and scoff at it."
