A fan who is accused of using racial slurs against Tottenham forward Son Heung-min on Saturday has been promised a club ban by Crystal Palace.
Footage has circulated on social media of a man in the away end at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium allegedly making a racist gesture towards Son.
The incident happened in the 89th minute of Tottenham's 1-0 victory when South Korea captain Son was replaced by substitute Arnaut Danjuma, who had to walk past the Palace traveling fans and around the outside of the pitch.
We are aware of a video that is going around online (as well as reports made directly to us) about a person in the away end at Spurs yesterday who appeared to make racist gestures toward Heung-min Son.When he is located, he will be subject to a club suspension due to evidence that has been given to the police. Such conduct is not acceptable in our club.
We are aware of a claim of racial abuse directed at Heung-min Son during yesterday's game, according to a Tottenham statement.
Discrimination of any kind is repugnant and has no place in our game, in our club, or in society. To conduct an investigation and locate the offender, we are collaborating with the Met Police and Crystal Palace.
"We will exert every effort to ensure that, if found guilty, the person will face the harshest punishment possible, as was the case earlier this year when Son received similar racial abuse at Chelsea," the statement continued.
"Why oh, who, oh why, do adults in this day and age think that this is an acceptable way to behave toward another human being?," commented the Tottenham supporters' group Spurs REACH, which stands for Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage, on Twitter. We sincerely hope that Crystal Palace Football Club identify and ban this man for life!"
Son endured additional racial taunts in August at a Stamford Bridge match between Chelsea and Tottenham.
