Juventus up to second in Serie A with a win at Atalanta
On Sunday, Juventus secured a hard-earned 2-0 victory over Atalanta, with 19-year-old English forward Samuel Iling-Junior scoring his first professional goal before Dusan Vlahovic sealed the win in injury time. The victory propelled Juve to second place in Serie A with 66 points, two points ahead of Lazio and three points ahead of fourth-placed Inter Milan. With only four rounds left in the season, the race for Champions League spots is tight. Atalanta currently sits sixth, five points behind Inter.
During the first half, Atalanta had opportunities to take the lead, but they failed to get their shots on target. Giorgio Scalvini came close with a header that beat Juve's goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny but hit the far post. In the second half, Juve took the lead after 10 minutes when Iling-Junior started and finished a move that cut through Atalanta's defence, receiving Arkadiusz Milik's pass and firing the ball in off the underside of the bar. This goal made Iling-Junior only the third English player to score for Juve in Serie A after David Platt and William John Jordan.
As Atalanta tried to claw their way back into the game, Vlahovic netted a second from a counter-attack with the last kick of the game. This win was crucial for Juventus, who are aiming to secure a spot in the Champions League for next season. They will now shift their focus to their Europa League semifinal first leg against Sevilla at home on Thursday.
