According to Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a flag bearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he will be a decisive leader who will revive the party's base and rekindle the passion required for the grassroots to achieve the party's elusive third straight win in 2024.
In that vein, he reiterated his vision for the development of a new dawn on the country's political scene and said that the NPP required a new period of thought, a new perspective, and a new direction.
He made this statement last Wednesday during a town hall meeting with the NPP parliamentary caucus while bringing his campaign to Parliament House.
The group's leaders, included the majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the first deputy speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Lydia Alhassan, and a number of cabinet members are the majority chief whips.
Former party general secretary, Mr. Agyepong, claimed that, if given the go-ahead by the delegates, he possessed the experience, character, and skill set necessary to lead the party.
The popularly referred to KAA emphasized the need for enforcing order and discipline, regulatory compliance, quality control, and quality assurance in public financial operations.
A lean and effective government
In answer to a query, Mr. Agyepong stated that he intended to significantly cut waste in the public sector by managing a lean, effective, and efficient administration ready to carry out its mandate.
He promised the MPs that he would work closely with Parliament to remove the country's regulations that force judges to automatically retire from the SC bench at the age of 70 and to impose a cap of nine justices on the Supreme Court (SC).
If the impending internal elections were held in a spirit of justice, equality, and the highest regard for the party's Code of Conduct, purging it of manipulation, compulsion, and favoritism, the former general secretary was convinced that the NPP could maintain power.
Mr. Agyepong urged the national administration and the parliamentary caucus to see to it that these ideals are upheld.
