According to Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Nkwantanang-Madina, the assembly would punish developers harshly if it was discovered that they did not secure the necessary permissions.
She said that it was done to maintain peace and order in the neighborhood.
"The assembly is prepared to take on any developers working without permission as soon as possible. The MCE described the event that took place in the West Adenta Electoral Area as a sad scenario.
According to the MCE, the developer in issue broke the law of the assembly, which led to an unnecessary incident when he addressed the media about a collapsed building in the municipality.
Disaster
According to Mrs. Adjabeng, the National Calamity Management Organization (NADMO) Director of the Assembly called her in a panic on Monday, May 1 at around 3:00 p.m. regarding a calamity that had happened at the West Adenta Electoral Area.
She said that when she and her colleagues investigated the situation further, they discovered a land developer and his employees trapped in the fallen structure, one of whom had died and eight others had been hurt. She said that the injured were taken by ambulance to the 37th Military Hospital for treatment.
The MCE stated that, in accordance with investigations, the developer was operating without permission on April 20, 2023, when the workers in the assembly's works department found out. The developer who was subsequently summoned wanted him to go through the procedures, but he bluntly declined the invitation to the gathering.

The MCE stated, "Even though he left the area after being warned, he planned to work throughout the long weekend, including Monday, which was a holiday, to outwit the assembly but was unfortunate.
She said that based on what laypeople could see at the construction site, the building's collapse was caused by the developer installing an additional story on top of the building while the concrete was still wet.
She continued by saying that once the building fell and lives were lost, it turned into a criminal matter that the police were dealing with.
According to her, the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the assembly made the decision to fully cooperate with the police in order to guarantee that the case was thoroughly investigated and the developer was held accountable in order to serve as a deterrent to future potential developers who would fail to cooperate with the assembly.
There have been several cases where developers have acted independently on the blind side of the assembly.
The assembly would make sure that developers collaborate with us and patiently wait for the completion of their papers, using the current occurrence as a test case. "The procedure doesn't end with the submission of an application alone," she stressed.
