Man City and Pep Guardiola can rejoice! The Champions League 'curse' that had been in place since 2018 has been lifted, according to Yaya Toure's agency.
Dimitri Seluk, the agent of former Manchester City player Yaya Toure, has apologized for suggesting that Pep Guardiola would never win the Champions League again due to a supposed curse placed on him by African shamans. Seluk had previously claimed that the hex was due to Guardiola's treatment of Toure during his time at the club. However, Seluk now says that he hopes City not only win the Champions League this year but also the treble. He also stated that the curse has been lifted by the shamans.
The Cityzens had come very close to winning the Champions League during the 2020/21 campaign but were beaten in the final by Chelsea. In the previous season, they were knocked out in the semi-finals by Real Madrid. However, they are now on track to become the first English club since Manchester United in 1999/2000 to win the treble, which includes the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.
Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the best football managers in the world, having won numerous domestic titles with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City. However, he has been criticized for his inability to win the Champions League since leaving Barcelona. Guardiola won the competition twice with Barcelona, but he has not been able to replicate that success with Bayern Munich or Manchester City.
City's recent form has been excellent, and they are currently on course to win the Premier League for the third time in a row. They have also reached the final of the Carabao Cup and are one of the favorites to win the Champions League. However, they will face tough competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea.
Despite the previous animosity between Seluk and Guardiola, it seems that the agent is now willing to bury the hatchet and support City's quest for success. Whether or not the supposed curse has been lifted remains to be seen, but Guardiola will be hoping that his team can finally win the Champions League and put an end to the criticism of his European record.
