Ever since Jurgen Klopp shifted Trent Alexander-Arnold to midfield, Liverpool has accrued more points than any other Premier League team.
Alexander-Arnold has earned a reputation as one of the most inventive full-backs in competition history, but when Liverpool struggled in the middle of the league, it became more difficult to overlook his defensive mistakes.
But since Klopp switched the England international to central midfield during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal on April 9, the team's performance has immediately improved.
During the victory over Brentford that put Liverpool within striking distance of Champions League contenders Manchester United and Newcastle, Jamie Carragher informed Sky Sports viewers, "If Trent plays midfield, he probably saves Liverpool 100m."
Additionally, Carragher discussed on the same channel a few weeks prior the effects of Alexander-Arnold's change in position.
"His role from midfield in the second half against Arsenal was almost like a Steven Gerrard performance, where he was a bit everywhere and there was a lot of running involved," the former Liverpool defender added.
"Trent has offered quality from a full-back position that is unusual for him; he plays the role differently. But after seeing him play in midfield, become more involved, and control the game, I believe this is almost ideal for him.
As they have done for the previous four to five years as a full-back, Klopp and Liverpool must figure out how to utilize his talents. As a midfielder if that position isn't functioning this season. As coaching staff, it is your responsibility to make sure the player is on the ball.
