In his final game before retiring, Neil Warnock oversaw a 2-0 Sky Bet Championship victory over Reading and praised Huddersfield's "unbelievable" 53 final points total.
With last week's victory over Sheffield United confirming the Terriers' remarkable escape from relegation, Monday's victory — the eighth under Warnock's interim leadership — served as the icing on the cake for the 74-year-old.
Kevin M. Nagle, a potential American owner, attended the game at John Smith's Stadium. Josh Koroma and substitute Joseph Hungbo scored two incredible goals in the second half to secure the victory.
After 49 minutes, Koroma scored the game's first goal, and Hungbo, on loan from Watford, sealed the victory six minutes later.
Warnock said, "I was happy I could leave him (Nagle) a Championship club." His team finished the season in 18th place, nine points above the relegation zone.
"I wanted to go out on top, and 53 points is unbelievable," she said. You have to treasure these moments. They don't come along very frequently, so I told the players that. "With the crowd, you would have thought we had been promoted to the Premier League. You can't possibly claim that it would have been any louder.
But the supporters are aware of the effort required to turn it around. I have no words to describe how it felt to watch everyone hang around at the conclusion.
The south-west-based veteran said he might be watching League One champions Plymouth when the Championship resumes play in the upcoming season.
It's nice since my daughter and I attend all of the home games, he remarked. "I might watch Huddersfield once more if Plymouth plays in the opening game.
It's ideal—until February—when I can relax, enjoy a wonderful lunch and a bottle of wine with no deadlines or worries about substitutes while being driven home.
Warnock was begged by Huddersfield supporters for an additional year, but he refused, saying, "You can't do this for 10 months."I detest hotels and highways, and at my age, I don't require either. For 10–12 weeks, though, I don't mind.
Noel Hunt said his own future is uncertain but believes the Royals' future is bright despite being relegated, despite the fact that he failed to lead Reading to victory during his time in that position.
