Guinness Ghana close down on Gh¢6m debt owed to GWCL
The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, stopped the supply of water to the headquarters of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited.
Guinness Ghana Breweries, according to a report by Joy News and investigated by GhanaWeb Business owes Ghana Water Company Limited a sum of GH¢6.7 million. The closure of the brewery business is part of GWCL's fundraising efforts.
"Ghana Water Company Limited has cut off the company's water supply. They owed GHC 6.7 million in March,” JoyNews said.
Guinness Ghana Breweries has not yet commented on the closure. Similar events are being held all over the countryas part of a campaign to raise money to pay off debts owed to GWCL.
According to GWCL, nationwide, more than $800million is paid in debt, 90% of which are private consumers and 10% government agencies. Until they have paid their debts in whole or in part, depending on the cost of the company, and other connection fees, the breakers have stopped their pipelines.
