On Monday against Leicester, the midfielder shone.
Following his two goals in Monday's rout of Leicester, Fulham manager Marco Silva lauded his captain Tom Cairney.
Cairney has only made 23 Premier League starts so far this season, but he made the most of his opportunity against the relegation-threatened Foxes, scoring his first league goals of the year and putting in a strong overall effort.
On the cusp of halftime, the 32-year-old swept in his team's third goal in a 5-3 thumping of Dean Smith's group. He then added his second goal following the break with a beautiful first touch and finish from Kenny Tete's cross.
It put Fulham in contention to earn their highest-ever Premier League point total, with two victories needed from their remaining three games to surpass Roy Hodgson's squad's 2009 mark of 53 points.
According to Silva, he was thrilled to see Cairney working in midfield to aid the squad when they lost possession of the ball and to instill the composure that finally enabled them to defeat Leicester before halftime.
"Tom is always a player that can give us the calmness to start the game, even some moments under pressure he can give us what we need," Silva added.
He is aware that I am pressuring him to be on time and within the rules, of course.
When the game is moving forward and we are in our defensive half, we need guys like him to arrive in specific locations as well. "In particular situations, first and second phase, we need players like him to start well.
"Two excellent goals from him, two great finishes. outstanding performer. We are aware of his abilities and how good he is on the ball.
"I'm happy to see him working hard off the ball, understanding when to press higher alongside Vini (Carlos Vinicius), and when to lower to assist the other midfielders as well. He gave a pretty strong performance, and I'm incredibly happy for him.
