The 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year, Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, well recognized as ‘Blacko’ or ‘Black Sherif’ has made known that even though he was expecting to win the “Album of the Year” award, the winner of that category equally deserved it.
The Album of the Year, which was won by King Promise for his ‘5 star ‘album caused stir on social media as many netizens were expecting the ‘Kweku The Traveller’ crooner to win the award.
The singer, who spoke to Cookie Tee and Berla Mundi on Monday, May 8 on TV3?s New Day expressed his feelings about not winning the Album of the Year.
According to him, he was waiting for his name to be mentioned but unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. “Obviously, I was waiting to hear my name, but when my name wasn’t mentioned, I said, ‘Yawa’,” he stated.
Blacko further added that he was not in any way disappointed because every nominee in that category deserved the award. He disclosed that he personally loved King Promise’s 5-star album which made him the winner of the category.

King Promise had waited too long to pick up an award at the #VGMAs. But last night at the 24th edition, he won the Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year.
On the same night, he beat Black Sherif, who was tipped to win the Album of the Year by many, to snaffle the award. the Album of the Year award to King Promise’s ‘5 Star’ album over Black Sherif’s ‘Villian I Never Was’.
He said Black Sherif had a good album, but King Promise was equally deserving of the award.
