Messi's decision will come at the end of this season and not before

Reports about Lionel Messi joining Al-Hilal have been circulating, but his official spokesperson has denied any such agreement, insisting that a decision on his future will only be made at the end of the current season with PSG. Messi’s father has also dismissed the rumours. According to sources, the deal was reported to be worth €500 million per year for two years, with a third optional year, making him one of the highest-paid players in the world.

However, no contract has been signed yet, as Messi does not want to make a decision before the end of the season.

Messi, who is turning 36 next month, is reportedly keen to stay fit for the Copa America 2024 and the 2026 World Cup, which could see him playing with a European club. Barcelona is said to be interested in bringing the star back to Camp Nou, but they will have to wait for La Liga’s decision on whether they will allow the Spanish club to make new additions in the summer transfer window, in line with Financial Fair Play rules.

Messi’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia created more speculation about his future. However, it was only to fulfil an agreement with the Saudi office of tourism. PSG has fined the Argentinian star for missing training without an agreement. If he moves to Al-Hilal, it could lead to the departure of Sergio Busquets, Barcelona’s captain and Messi’s close friend. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of next June and has an offer of renewal from the Spanish club.

Despite the rumours, those close to Messi continue to maintain that no decision has been made yet. Messi’s father has stated on Instagram that “There is no agreement at all with any club for next year. There is no way that decision will be taken until Lionel finishes his season with PSG.” If Messi does sign with Al-Hilal, it could set up a rivalry between him and Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al Nassr, reigniting the battle between the two in the Persian Gulf.
