Yaw Boateng Gyan, a former national organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has advised opposition party delegates not to support a flagbearer who is only eligible to run for one term in office.

He claimed that the NDC would be at risk if they supported former president John Dramani Mahama, whose tenure ends in four years, as a contender.

During Dr. Kwabena Duffuor's campaign trip, Mr. Gyan advised NDC members in the Lower West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region that the party should choose a flagbearer who can serve as President for eight years in order to ensure continuity and the sustainability of achievements.

He reiterated that the economy would play a role in the 2024 election, which calls for a technical expert.

He said that the NDC needs a smart economist like Dr. Duffuor, a former Finance Minister, to guide the party to victory and that, if the party gets power, such a person can resolve Ghana's economic problems.

"The economy is a key issue in the 2024 election." It will take years to undo the economic damage that Akufo-Addo and his brother, Ofori-Atta, caused.

According to Mr. Gyan, "Ghanaians will not allow the NDC to present any new candidate to begin his term; they will say we wasted their time" if we elect someone whose term expires in four years and they are unhappy with his performance.

He believed that choosing former President Mahama to head the NDC in the general election of 2024 would be a gamble.

claiming, "In 2016, we lost almost one million votes." We offered him the chance to run again, but we came in second place by 500,000 votes.

He insisted, saying, "In the 2024 election, we don't have to risk it. Many Ghanaians are asking us to alter our candidate so they can support the NDC. As a result, we must comprehend that God speaks through the voice of the people.

The EIU asserts that Dr. Kwabena Duffuor must serve as the party's leader if the NDC is to triumph in the 2024 elections. "Not a candidate who will serve for four years, but one who will serve for eight," he said.
