Weghorst, according to Ferdinand, lacks the inventiveness to be Man United's starting No. 10

After Manchester United's 1-0 loss to West Ham on Sunday, Peter Crouch and Rio Ferdinand have questioned Erik ten Hag's choice to play Wout Weghorst as a number 10.

Said Benrahma scored from 20 yards out in the first half, giving Erik Ten Hag's team the lead. David de Gea made the blunder.

As the game went on, United had several opportunities to score, but they were unable to do so due to a succession of dull goals.

Weghorst, who has made 14 Premier League outings for the Red Devils but has yet to score, received special flak for positioning himself behind starting striker Marcus Rashford.

a strange role for a 6' 6" center forward.

'I really can't comprehend it,' remarked fellow tall striker Peter Crouch on BT Sport, 'I can't get my mind around what he gives in that position.'

'If you play Weghorst, you've got to put him high up so the likes of Rashford and [Jadon] Sancho can bounce balls off him, you can play one touch and then he's in the box for any crosses,' he continued, 'you can play one touch and then he's in the box.'

The Dutchman is presently on loan from Burnley, but rumors this week indicated that it is doubtful that he will sign a permanent contract with the team this summer.

Weghorst was not suitable for the position he portrayed on the show, according to Ferdinand.

If I were Anthony Martial, Sancho, Bruno [Fernandes], or Alejandro Garnacho and I saw him line up as a no. 10, it would signify something different to me.

It takes a creative player with cunning to get between the lines, take advantage of the half-turn, and engage other players to score goals. He doesn't offer nearly enough of what I've said.

After Sunday's defeat, United is still in the Champions League spots, but with a game left, they are only one point clear of Liverpool in fifth place.

After winning their past six games, Jurgen Klopp's team is in fine form heading into the final stretch of the season, which includes matches against Leicester, Aston Villa, and Southampton.

On paper, United's next fixtures—against Wolves, Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham—appear uncomplicated. However, the Red Devils have already dropped two straight matches by the same score and have only won once in their previous four. u
