Frankfurt has announced that their coach, Oliver Glasner, will be leaving the club after the German Cup final in early June. The decision was made due to the team's recent performance, particularly in the second half of the season, and was reached after extensive discussions and analysis.
Despite leading the team to their first European trophy in 42 years by winning the Europa League final over Rangers last year, Frankfurt has been winless in their last 10 league matches. Glasner will miss the team's next match due to a ban for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Frankfurt's sporting director, Markus Kroesche, stated that the club "wants to work together on the best possible farewell and concentrate on the final games with all our might." Glasner has also expressed his acceptance of the decision and his desire to bring the German Cup back to Frankfurt.
He added that he is personally invested in ensuring that Eintracht can celebrate great nights on the international stage again next season.
The Europa League win under Glasner's leadership saw Frankfurt qualify for the Champions League for the first time, making it through to the last 16 this season before being eliminated by Italian champions Napoli. The team will play against holders RB Leipzig in the German Cup final, which will be Glasner's last match in charge, regardless of the outcome.
Glasner's departure comes after he has become increasingly frustrated on the sidelines and in press conferences in recent weeks. The decision by Frankfurt to part ways with the 48-year-old Austrian coach has been made in the best interest of the team and its future. The club will now focus on the final games of the season and the German Cup final as they bid farewell to their coach of two years.
