Sergio Busquets set for Barcelona farewell as the Barca captain decides against renewing contract
At the conclusion of the current campaign, Sergio Busquets will leave Barcelona after deciding not to extend his contract with the club.
The 34-year-old is reported to have informed the club of his choice, which would end his affiliation with the organization he joined when he was seven and rose through the ranks of the junior squad to eventually captain the first team.
Busquets was reportedly worried about staying at the club past his peak and ruining his legacy with a downturn in his performances for the Catalans, according to the Spanish newspaper Marca.
Former teammate and current manager Xavi wanted the midfielder to stay at the Nou Camp, but the team was unable to offer Busquets a solid contract because of their precarious financial situation at the moment.
Busquets could now follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia according to a report in SPORT, with the middle east seen as a number one destination for his next move.
Although the experienced midfielder has been linked with a move to David Beckham's Inter Miami team, the MLS may be another possibility for him.
Prior to this weekend's title-clinching match against rival Espanyol, Barcelona plans to make an official declaration.
The club captain is then anticipated to have a farewell celebration planned to honor his fifteen illustrious seasons with his childhood team.
