Man Utd interested in signing Andre Onana, Chelsea also in the transfer race
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, both Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer. United have been struggling with their number one, David de Gea, who has made some costly errors recently. Although de Gea has reportedly agreed to a new contract, it is uncertain whether he will continue to be United's first-choice goalkeeper next season.
Onana previously worked under current United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, where he was very successful. The 27-year-old has continued his impressive form with Inter, having kept clean sheets in 17 of his 36 appearances across all competitions this season. He is known for his superb reflexes and his ability to operate as a sweeper-keeper when required, and he is also comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Onana has completed 79% of his passes in the league this season, compared to de Gea's 68%, and he is known for making regular high claims in the box, something that de Gea is less comfortable with. Therefore, in the opinion of some experts, Onana would be a clear upgrade on de Gea and would perfectly suit ten Hag's playing style.
Chelsea are also interested in signing Onana, but United are likely to have the upper hand due to their Champions League qualification. The opportunity to reunite with ten Hag could be hard for Onana to turn down, as long as he is guaranteed a starting position ahead of de Gea.
Inter Milan are reportedly prepared to part ways with Onana for €50 million, and it remains to be seen which club he will ultimately choose. United's interest in the Cameroon international is not surprising given their current goalkeeper issues, and they will likely do their best to secure his signature. Chelsea, on the other hand, have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy as their current goalkeeping options, but it seems they are still looking to add to their squad this summer.
