Kumawu polls: We are in talks with an independent candidate to step down - Chief Executive
The Majority Leader in Parliament and a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said the leaders of the party are still negotiating with the independent politician, Mr.Kwaku Duah, to leave Kumawu through him. - selection.
Speaking on Angel FM in an interview, the MP for Suame said the party is still trying to get him out of the race.
Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu further stated that after talkingwith him, Mr. Kwaku Duah is reluctant to change his decision. "As I said, we have had many discussions with him, if he understands and resigns that is good, but if he does not resign,we will resign. But hopefullythings will change . will make them stop," said. Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu. "But if he doesn't step down, we will fight because we know we are going to win," he added.
Meanwhile, the NPP's Ashanti regional chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako, better known as President Wontumi, had earlier accused Mr. Kwaku Duah, the independent candidate, of being sponsored by the opposition NDC.
But Mr. Kwaku Duah in response dismissed the claim describing it as a distraction and a strategy to derail talks on the real development issues that need to be addressed in Kumawu constituency. MrKwaku Duah will face NPP candidate Ernest Yaw Anim and Mr Kwasi Amankwah of NDC in the contest.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Tuesday, May 23, 2023as the date for the election.
