Real Madrid and Manchester City will go into the second-leg of their Champions League semi-final all square after a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid vs Manchester City

On a humid night in the Spanish capital, two of the best football teams in the world did battle on the biggest stage.

Manchester City, the overwhelming favorites due to their deep squad and limitless financial resources, whilst Real Madrid hold an incredible history in the competition which seems to help them in knockout ties.

Pep Guardiola spoke prior to kick-off about the strength of Los Blancos, although it took a while for it to show on the pitch.

Real Madrid couldn't get near their English visitors in the first 25 minutes.

The Blues controlled possession and it seemed only a matter of time before the broke the deadlock.

However, it was a moment of individual brilliance from Vinicius Jr. which actually put the hosts in front.

Eduardo Camavinga broke forward with the ball, laying it off to the Brazilian who drove through the heart of Manchester City's midfield.

With a clever feint inside and a traction-engine esque right foot, the former Flamengo star fired a rocket of a shot beyond Ederson and into the roof of the net.Manchester City were fortunate to draw

It was a moment which turned the tide of the game. Now it was Los Merengues who were in control as Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Camavinga kept the ball between themselves.

It seemed as if the most likely outcome was another goal for the Spanish giants, but they were stunned by a Kevin de Bruyne counter-attack goal.

Manchester City benefited from a mistake by Rodrygo Goes, who lost the ball in a key area, although there remains anger in Madrid that the ball had gone out of play on the touchline just beforehand.

De Bruyne received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and powered a low shot into the bottom right corner.

It was a moment of fortune for the visitors that they clung onto and took full advantage of.

From that point there were chances for both teams, although Karim Benzema will regret sending a header from close-range directly into Ederson's arms.

Aurelien Tchouameni fired a snapshot towards the goal after coming off the bench, but Ederson once again thwarted the hosts.

Real Madrid will now head to Manchester knowing they can both score against the Blues and keep Erling Haaland silent for 90 minutes, and they will be hopeful of a return to a second successive Champions League final.
