SAFA briefs on SA's 2027 Fifa Women's World Cup bid
On Tuesday May 9th, 2023, a delegation from the South African Football Association (SAFA), led by President Dr. Danny Jordaan, met with the Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, in Cape Town to brief him on South Africa's bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The meeting took place during the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture's budget vote networking session and post-budget activation event, which was attended by various personalities, including former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe.
SAFA's President, Vice President Linda Zwane, new CEO Lydia Monyepao, and NEC member Tankiso Modipa briefed Minister Kodwa on the timeline for South Africa's bid, emphasizing the importance of submitting the bid agreement by May 19th, 2023. This will confirm SAFA's interest in hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup, and allow them to receive the bid documents from FIFA.
CEO Monyepao noted that the event was an opportunity to showcase SAFA's plans to welcome the world to South Africa in 2027. She explained that SAFA wanted to make the Minister aware of their intentions so that FIFA could provide them with the necessary bid documents.
The SAFA delegation used the opportunity to preach the gospel of their bid to stakeholders in attendance at the Cape Town event.
