City have been sidelined by Arsenal, who have agreed to buy a winger who will become their new highest-earning player, and an announcement will be made before the end of the season.

Although Arsenal's season may end without a trophy, it is impossible to say that Mikel Arteta's men have improved dramatically.

To ensure the current campaign becomes the new normal and is not exceptional, a busy summer transfer window is expected at Emirates.

West Ham's Declan Rice is leaving and Arsenal are hoping the England international will pick them up in a deal that could top £100m.

Rice is also attracting interest from Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool, although the Daily Mail has rated the Gunners as favorites. However, just as important as bolstering Arteta's roster with new faces is tying the already existing ones to long-term deals.

According to talkSPORT and the PA news agency, that's exactly what Arsenal will do with Bukayo Saka.

The 21-year-old right winger is the only EPL player to have scored a brace (13) and assist (11) this season.

Saka is Arsenal's Player of the Year twice and is the defending champion and will close in on Martin Odegaard in hopes of a hat-trick.

Losing Saka is unthinkable for the Gunners, although according to reliable reporter Ben Jacobs, that is exactly what Man City has planned. Man City threatens, but Saka signs for Arsenal

Jacobs previously told TEAMtalk City that he is 'playing the long game' with Saka and that Pep Guardiola's side have a 'real interest' in signing the player.

However, City's hopes - here and now at least - will be dashed.

First, the AP reports that Saka is 'about to sign' a new and improved contract with the Gunners.

Arsenal hope to announce the deal before the end of the season, in less than three weeks. Negotiations have been going on since before the World Cup and are now drawing to a close. The AP said a deal was "almost done" and only "the finer details" of the deal remained unresolved.

The PA also said promotional videos - such as media for the club's website and social media channels - were filmed.

talkSPORT piggybacks on information from the AP, but adds its own opinion and goes even further.

They claim the new deal is in fact 'agreed' and Saka will become Arsenal's new top earner at £300,000 a week.

A five-year deal that runs until 2028 is said to be the duration of the contract and serves as a double basis for the claim that City have indeed expressed an interest in robbing Saka from the Emirates. To the delight of Arsenal and Arteta fans, Guardiola will leave empty-handed.
