Mourinho dismisses PSG talk
Ahead of AS Roma's first-leg Europa League semifinal against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday, coach Jose Mourinho has dismissed speculation linking him with a managerial role at Paris Saint-Germain. Despite rumors of potentially taking over from Christophe Galtier in the 2023-24 season, Mourinho reaffirmed his commitment to Roma, where he is currently under contract until 2024.
During a pre-match news conference, Mourinho expressed admiration for Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen's coach, who played a pivotal role in Mourinho's success during their tenure at Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013. Mourinho acknowledged the German team as one of Europe's finest in terms of executing counter-attacks and emphasized the danger posed by their swift attacking players.
Although Roma has reached the semifinals of a prominent European competition for the third consecutive season, Mourinho dismissed the notion that it puts pressure on the team. "We have enough experience not to be too excited about being in the semifinals and not to be too fixated on the fact that it is the first game and that it is played at home," he said.
Mourinho also said it was likely key striker Paulo Dybala and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum would not be in the starting line-up due to injuries.
The return leg will take place on 18 May.
