Michael Carrick has the support of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a former teammate, to coach Manchester United in the future.

At the tail end of Solskjaer's Man Utd career and the beginning of Carrick's, the two played together for a brief period while sharing the 2006–07 Premier League championship. Since then, the two have collaborated as coaches at Old Trafford, with Carrick supporting Solskjaer while the Norwegian was in charge of the first team.

Despite taking over an underwhelming team in October 2022, Carrick has done a remarkable job as Middlesborough's manager, helping the team finish fourth in the Championship and secure a spot in the promotion play-offs.

In an interview with The Athletic, Solskjaer expressed support for his former teammate and coaching partner to eventually take the Man Utd management position.

"Michael is a man of character and ethics, a strong believer in family, yet his expertise is unmatched. He has played with the top players in the world and has been managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho. He may be a winner, but he still has emotional control, according to Solskjaer.

"I cannot imagine him not managing Manchester United."

Michael Carrick is a proper human being and a man who you want to succeed, according to Solskjaer, who added: "Michael is a proper man who you want to be successful. He is flawless, and everything he does is done with integrity.

"I don't like to make many comparisons, but I can see both myself and Michael in Michael. Although neither of us could pick a pass as well as he could, we are both composed and thoughtful. Despite being a huge winner, he maintains emotional control. He keeps his cool and understands what he wants. He won't ever get upset and argue with the players.

His leading scorer, Chubby Akpom, recently remarked that Michael is the manager he has always wanted, and I can believe that. Because Michael cares about you, you would want to perform well for him as a player. He wants you to achieve your full potential.
