Burnley must be "smart" in the summer transfer window, according to Vincent Kompany, as they prepare to make a comeback to the Premier League.
The Clarets were promoted back to the top level under Kompany's leadership in his first season in command, earning the Sky Bet Championship title and accruing 101 points with a 3-0 victory over Cardiff on Monday in the season's last match.
The team under Kompany's direction underwent a significant shakeup last summer when 13 veteran players left and 16 newcomers were brought in to take their place.
There won't be anything on that scale this time, but Kompany is aware that more investment is necessary to help Burnley get back into the Premier League.
"We've been comfortably planning for six months for this scenario," Kompany told the PA news agency. I am certain that we can upgrade the squad without sacrificing what has worked well for us this season since we have been planning for a very long time.At the same time, we must watch out lest we ruin the club. Making wise choices, defending the club, and attempting to be competitive are all important.
In order to put an end to rumors linking him to Chelsea and Tottenham, Kompany last week signed a new five-year contract with Burnley. By doing this, he let potential new recruits know where they will be playing.
According to Kompany, the deal shows how content he is with his Turf Moor setup.
The former Manchester City captain acknowledged that it is challenging to find a healthy environment in football. "I've been in football for 20 years, and I know how difficult it is to find a healthy environment in football," he said. "Now that we've accomplished something together, it will be taken into account in the future.
It's a nice place with kind people, and that's unique. I hope that regular supporters will be proud of the work we put in, and even when things don't turn out well, they will still know that we give this club our all.I decide against taking part in the conjecture. I have frank discussions with Alan Pace, the chairman, on everything I need to. Everything else continues as normal.
